COONEY FAMILY BEACH PORTRAITS
Cooney family beach portraits captured their love and laughter against the backdrop of the Newport Beach coastline. Six years had flown by since I last photographed the Cooneys, and it was amazing to see how much their kids had grown! Even with the cloudy skies, their energy and laughter lit up the beach in Newport. We explored the coastline, capturing those genuine family moments - the silly smiles, the playful hugs, the way their eyes sparkled with joy. These photos aren't just snapshots; they're a time capsule of their connection, a reminder that even as life changes, the love remains strong. As the day ended, we promised to reunite again soon, hopefully before those kids are off to college!
WHY I LOVE NEWPORT MUNICIPAL BEACH AS A FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER
Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach is arguably one of the most uniquely beautiful places in Southern California, if not the entire United States. The 29th Street beach entrance places you right in the middle of a vast, 5-mile stretch of sandy shoreline. This is where I like to meet many of my clients.
The Municipal Beach (as it's called in Newport) is wide and bordered by beautiful, multi-million dollar homes, which make for an awesome backdrop. The ocean is mostly calm in this area, so a walk down the shore is often peaceful. Lifeguard towers stretch for miles and can be used as props, depending on your clients' bravery when it comes to climbing them.
The Cooney family picked one of the coldest mornings of the year for their Christmas photos, and with the addition of the peninsula's morning fog, we began missing the sunshine instantly. Nevertheless, a few clicks and a few steps on the sand later, we warmed up, and I was able to capture some genuine images of the family interacting. I'm sure this won't be the last time I photograph there, and I can't wait.
